Community Development Funds

Community Development Funds are those that Get Up & Go! has distributed to St. Clair County community organizations and groups. The funding for the Community Development Funds has come from other Get Up & Go grants or fund-raising efforts:

We Choose Health
Pioneering Healthier Communities (PHC)
Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW)
Community Development Funds

From Pioneering Healthier Communities

In 2009, Get Up & Go received its first grant, Pioneering Healthier Communities.

Roughly $25,000 was distributed to 14 applicants (see table). Our goal was to establish a process for supporting cooperative agreements with schools and neighborhoods. We asked them to demonstrate that they would initiate and sustain promising practices for active living and healthy eating.

From Communities Putting Prevention to Work

In 2010-11, the Communities Putting Prevention to Work grant provided funding to Harmony-Emge Ellis School, the Jones Park Project in East St. Louis, and the Lebanon Grade School for a similar initiative.

From We Choose Health

In 2013, the We Choose Health grant is offering $2,500 to $4,500 to schools who wish to initiate a Coordinated School Health Initiative or Safe Routes to School Program.

From the Get Up & Go! Healthy Community Fund

Knowing that grant funding may or may not always be available for projects such as these, Get Up & Go has established a Healthy Community Fund.

It’s dedicating 90% of every donation to provide ongoing support for community projects that promote active living and healthy eating throughout the communities of St. Clair County.
